Elsewhere
A book that I have read is ‘Elsewhere’ by Gabrielle Zevin. The story is about a fifteen year-old girl called Liz, who is killed in a hit-and-run accident. She wakes up on a ship, the ‘SS Nile’, which is sailing to Elsewhere. The story then follows Liz as she makes new friends, meets her grandmother, who died before Liz was born, and begins her new life in Elsewhere. Sadly at the start, when Liz first arrives in Elsewhere, she is depressed because she knows she will never fall in love, never get married or never have children and because of this Liz goes on a drastic adventure to find the truth, to love and to find perfect happiness.
The way Gabrielle Zevin writes about Liz’s life in Elsewhere was touching, funny and had me gripped from start to finish. The descriptions of the characters were amazing and were brought to life in my mind. The story line was perfect and had that touch of mystery and sweetness that kept me glued.
For me this book gave me a new way of looking at life around me and thought me to cherish the ones I love. I would give this book ten out of ten for a superb story. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a sense of mystery with a twist of romance, sadness, joy and hope.

'Elsewhere' is the story of the death and afterlife of fifteen year old Liz. After being hit by a taxi while riding her bike Liz finds herself on the SS Nile sailing to Elsewhere a place between heaven and earth where the deceased live, have jobs, have pets and can look at the living on earth below. When Liz gets to Elsewhere she meets her grandmother who died of cancer at fifty. Betty is now thirty as in Elsewhere everyone ages backwards.
Liz spends most of her time looking at her family and friends on earth. She makes a new friend in Elsewhere, Owen, he is in charge of keeping everyone in Elsewhere away from the well, at the well the people of Elsewhere can contact the people of Earth. Liz wants to go to the well to contact her father. Liz grows closer to her grandmother and gets a job in the division of domestic animals and begins to enjoy life on Elsewhere.
It is both serious and humorous as it deals with death while there are talking dogs at the same time. All in all I really enjoyed reading Elsewhere and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is up for a good read.
