I am writing this review for all those people who have not read The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien.. These books are so well known that as one person said “the English speaking world is divided into two groups, those who have read the Lord of the Rings and those who have not”. This book is an action thriller about the war between good and evil. The good side is trying to destroy the ring, the source of all evil’s power, whilst the evil are try to reclaim it. This story throws the reader into a whirlwind of war, friendship and adventure. The main character in the story is Frodo, a hobbit, who is tasked with destroying the ring. Frodo is also helped along the way by Sam, who is his best friend and his gardener. Their guide on this journey is Gandalf, a wise, old wizard that is the driving force for all good.
The films are mostly loyal to the books but they lack a lot detail and some key characters and key scenes. Even if you have seen the film its worth reading the book as it is an unstoppable read, which you can not put down. Though you may say you have seen the films, the books have so much more in them and they are a worthwhile read
These books blend into one another so well that it is almost like one book instead of three. Also it gets you into the mood of reading more books from the world of the Lord of the Rings. This book weaves together all the things that make a good story, such as being unpredictable, abrupt, sad but also happy and most importantly, it engrosses the reader in this magical world of fantasy.
Hobbits are a small race at about half the size of a man. They are extremely fond of food and will often have ten meals a day. They live in a green land called the Shire which is described as one of the fairest places in Middle Earth, the land of the Lord of the Rings.
My favorite scene incorporates these Hobbits and shows when angered they can be a powerful force not to be messed with. I liked when the hobbits fought against a group of bandits who had taken over their home. I like this scene because it shows that the hobbits can defend themselves and that even though they are small, they can have more courage then most men.
Overall this is a brilliant read and one of the finest books I have ever read. I would give this book ten out of ten simply because it grabbed my attention from the first page and definitely deserves it. The plot of the story will not leave you confused as they explain and describe everything. This book is suitable for twelve years and up because the story is a little complicated and confusing at times. However, I don’t think I would be exaggerating when I say you will not be disappointed with the time you invest in reading this book.
